Pop CDs used to be in very high demand, well looks like that has changed. Personally, I believe it because I have not bought a CD since I got my first Ipod for Christmas many years back.
Last week the top ten only sold about 320,000 copies, and a third of that amount was the “Frozen” soundtrack. The numbers are truly astonishing! Everything from spot twenty and down on the charts all sold fewer than 10,000 copies each. Spot fifty was a band called Schoolboy Q, they only racked in 5,545 copies.
Next week some heavy hitters are up for bat. We are expecting Michael Jackson’s “Xscape” album to hit the shelves May 13th. Coldplay’s album hits shelves the 19th, and Mariah Carey’s album is set to drop on the 27th. If these albums do not knock “Frozen” off the top then there is a lot to be said about Pop music today.
All the usual Pop sensations such as Rihanna, Eminem, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z have all had their album releases. American Idol has not produced any superstars as of late. The Pop world has hit a rough patch, and we are all waiting for Adele to get us out of it!
