The rapper Prodigy, who is the other half of hip hop duo Mopp Deep, has passed away at the age of 42.
Co – author of one of his books, Kathy Iandoli, reported the news to CNN. The cause of death is unknown, but the rapper had been hospitalized in the past for sickle cell anemia.
Prodigy had been in Las Vegas to perform with fellow member of Mobb Deep, ‘Havoc’.
Prodigy and Havoc met in Manhattan’s High School of Art and Design and rose to fame after they released ‘The Infamous’.
After their shot to fame, the duo released their 1996 follow up, ‘Hell on Earth’. This included the track ‘Drop a Gem on ‘Em’ which was supposedly a Diss track to Tupac ‘s ‘Hit ‘Em Up’.
Prodigy spoke of his ‘beef’ with Tupac in a 2012 interview with Hip Hop DX.
Prodigy was remembered on Tuesday by many rappers on social media, including Nas and Lil Wayne.
Two of the duos biggest hits were ‘Quiet Storm’ and ‘Shook Ones’.
