According to The Root, Bahamas-born singer Johnny Kemp died yesterday (April 16) at 55 years old.
Kemp was on the Tom Joyner cruise when he fell and hit his head; he passed away from the resulting injuries.
His singing career began in the Bahamas, where he sang in nightclubs, before he moved to New York in 1979. Kemp is known for hits like “Just Got Paid,” “Just Another Lover,” and “Dancin’ With Myself.”
“Just Got Paid” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Song in 1989.
Kemp leaves behind a wife and two sons.
