Since Pitch Perfect was released in September 2012, audiences everywhere have fallen in love with the hilarious Rebel Wilson. Wilson portrayed “Fat Amy” in the film and its sequel, released in the United States on May 15. For almost three years, audiences were to understand this was Wilson’s legal name, and she was born in approximately 1986. However, when one of her former classmates spoke to Woman’s Day, she revealed that Wilson’s real name is Melanie Bownds, age 36. The Internet is frenzied with this new information.

But does it really matter how old she is? Wilson’s performances in both Pitch Perfect movies are on the mark completely. Who cares when she was born if she’s hilarious? Wilson also wouldn’t be the first celebrity to lie about her name and age. Angelina Jolie’s name is really Angelina Jolie Voight, and Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jean Baker. Back in the 1930s, an actor called Mae West regularly portrayed a teenager until it was revealed that she was 42 years old. Shouldn’t talent and presence speak more about a performer than the name and age on a birth certificate?

You can catch Wilson in Pitch Perfect 2, in theaters around the United States now.
