RiRi is the latest target of body shaming after Chris ‘Spags’ Spagnuolo, a writer at Barstool Sports, wrote a 350 word article on Tuesday calling her ‘FAT’.
This came after images of Rihanna out and about surfaced on Saturday in which she was dressed in loose clothing and caught at a bad angle.
Spagnuolo titled the article “Is Rihanna Going To Make Being Fat The Hot New Trend?” He followed up with a range of unflattering photos of the star.
He wrote that seeing Rihanna “pushing 180” is a “tough world to stomach” and added that he fears that other “hot girls” would follow her lead.
“Rihanna is traipsing around out there looking like she’s in a sumo suit. It’s a dangerous precedent,” he added. “It’s time to worry if you’re not a guy who fancies himself a chubby chaser.”
Spagnuolo received lots of backlash from both men and women on social media. Many women called out the site on Twitter with one user claiming the men that work there are “lumps of raw dough”.
After receiving this backlash, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy issued an apology and said he would delete the post. His reasoning was not for the backlash or hurt he caused, but because he thought Spagnuolo did a bad job at being funny.
“To be honest I don’t think the blog was as bad as many are making it out to be, but I’ll tell you this. It wasn’t that funny either and I could have told you with absolute certainty that feminists would hate it,” he said.
Worst apology ever.
