It isn’t often that Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively let us see into their personal lives. Since they got married back in 2012, the couple has kept the details of their relationship relatively under wraps.
So you can imagine our excitement when we found out that Ryan Reynolds is so overwhelmed with happiness that he is willingly telling people about being a dad!
In a recent interview with the Daily Mirror, the actor, 38, opened up about his life with his wife, Blake Lively, and his daughter, James, who was born in December.
He explained that everything is exciting when you’re a new dad…even the not-so-glamorous parts of the job. He said, “It’s the most exciting time you can imagine. You try to get used to the idea of waking up several times in the night to feed your baby or change diapers or rock your child back to sleep…Sometimes you’re in such a state you don’t even remember getting up and walking in the house at 3am.”
So even though Reynolds acknowledged the new-baby struggle, he quickly reverted back to his blinding positivity by adding, “Normally you’d go crazy interrupting your sleep that way but when it’s your baby, it’s the best thing in the world.”
Aww! This is a side to the actor that we’ve never seen before!
He even joked during the interview about his age. At 38-years-old, Reynolds is on the older side of the ‘first-time-dad club,’ so he exclaimed, “I’m just happy my boys can swim!”
Reynolds met Lively on the set of the 2011 film, Green Lantern, and they both continue to have prolific acting careers.
However, Reynolds explained that he hopes his daughter doesn’t aspire to follow in her parents’ footsteps anytime soon.
“I’ve always had, like, an aversion to child actors,” he said (ironically, since he was a child actor at 13-years-old!).
Regarding the industry, he continued, “I know for a fact adults can’t handle it so I don’t know how a kid is expected to handle any level of fame. Let alone the levels of scrutiny that come with it. It’s just too much for a kid.”
Well, with his daughter James not even 9-months-old yet, we think that Reynolds has some time before he needs to start worrying.
Although, for a new dad, worrying is probably just another part of the job!
