Actor Samuel L. Jackson gave a tribute to the classic 90s sitcom “Boy Meets World” on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Instead of giving a ordinary speech about how great the show was, Jackson took a different approach. He recited an original, entertaining, poem about the hit sitcom in three minutes and forty-five seconds.
When the rhythmic beat began, Jackson opened the poem with “Boy Meets World, boy greets world, hello world I am Corey Matthews”, while taking intermittent drags on an e-cigarette. He spoke about the infamous Corey and Topanga, love saga and recited “Boy meets world, boy meets girl. Topanga, Topanga, Topanga, beats the heart of Corey a story as old as time. Daughter of hippies, name of a gypsy. TOPANGA!” The crowd cheered as Jackson made a rhythmic beat with his hand on his chest, to represent Corey’s heart beat for Topanga. The media raved about Jackson’s performance. Here are a few of their comments:
“Forget any and all tributes to Boy Meets World, because none of them will ever top this one”. – Huffington Post
“It’s not known why the 65-year-old decided to pay tribute to the modern classic, but does it matter? It’s not something you wanna miss!”- Entertainment Tonight
“Jackson hits other key moments in the show’s history including Cory’s final temptation with Lauren at the ski lodge, Eric’s “Feeny” call and Feeny’s final, emotional farewell to his favorite students. Though this version is flawless, an hour-long rendition would be welcome ” – TIME.com
There is no doubt that Jackson’s poetry slam will go down in history as one of the best tributes to a sitcom. Ironically, Jackson later admitted to Fallon that he never watched the classic sitcom.
