Maroon 5 was right. This summer really did hurt like a motherf****r…
The summer of 2015 is officially the summer of the breakup. We’ve done our research, and found some major celebrity couples that called it quits this summer.
1) Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck
One of Hollywood’s longest-standing couples announced their divorce in June, kicking off the summer of splits. We were all upset to hear the news just one day after the couple reached their 10-year wedding anniversary.
“We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time,” the couple announced in a joint statement.
The couple has three children, daughters Violet and Serphina, and a son, Samuel. The children’s former nanny ahs been linked to Affleck in multiple affair rumors, though he has denied them all.
2) Britney Spears and Charlie Ebersol
This relationship was a short-lived one. Spears was linked to the TV producer in November 2014, and they reportedly broke up in June.
Though their relationship seemed super sweet form all of the paparazzi photos of them, by the looks of Instagram, the break up may not have gone over so well. Spears deleted all of the photos with Ebersol that were on her feed.
3) Charlize Theron and Sean Penn
Theron and Penn were together for almost two years before they called off their engagement in June.
They had a good run and spoke of one another very fondly. Charlize described their relationship as “effortless” and called Penn “the love of my life” at one point
“Putting aside that he’s my partner, he’s the love of my life; for the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life, and that made it hard,” she told British Elle magazine just a month before the split.
The couple was last seen together on the red carpet in Cannes, back in May.
4) Nick Jonas and Olivia Culpo
Ah, Miss Universe and a chart-topping pop star.
This couple was absolutely adorable while it lasted. The two dated for almost two years before ending their relationship in June.
Culpo took to social media to vent to her fans, clearly broken-hearted from the split.
“Your heart just break, that’s all,” she wrote. “Heartbreak is hard but you find more and more things to be grateful for everyday. One of those things is all of you. Thank you all. Yes I’m going to be okay and I love u guys so so much. Every day is a blessing.”
Jonas kept off of posting on social media, but he spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his finished relationship.
“I’m doing okay. It’s very tough and we had a beautiful two years together and [I have] nothing but love and respect for her,” he said. But it’s always hard and my thing now is focusing on my work and staying as busy as I can, as creative as I can be. These are the times you’ve just got to dive in and get lost in your work and that’s what I’m trying to do.”
When asked if he was regretful about having his relationship out in the open, he said he regrets more his past.
“I have regrets about not being open with relationships in the past,” Jonas admitted to Entertainment Tonight. “That’s the thing that makes it actually more challenging. On many levels you try to hide the relationship or do things to make it more private but that just adds more stress on the relationship. Whereas this relationship I was in was open and public and there’s a lot of comfort in that and support. So yeah, I think it’s the opposite actually. But it’s this part of it that makes it all harder afterwards.”
The 22-year-old “Jealous” singer was linked to Kendall Jenner after the split, but squashed those rumors in a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest.
5) Emma Roberts and Evan Peters
Emma Roberts and Evan Peters ended their engagement in June, after over a year. The two started dating in 2012 and starred in the third and fourth seasons of American Horror Story.
6) Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton
This was a sad sad time for country music. After dating for almost ten years and being married for four, the couple announced their divorce in June.
“This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately,” the couple said in a statement.
The divorce was finalized just a few hours after they announced it, following the terms of their prenuptial agreement.
Blake issued a “petition for protective order,” asking that the details of their assets remain sealed and private, which the judge granted.
The two have since remained friendly on social media, and though some fans find their back and forth tweets to be odd, we commend them for maintaining a friendship!
7) Michael Sam and Vito Cammisano
The NFL star proposed to his college sweetheart just six months before the couple called it quits.
The two met as students at the University of Missouri and began dating in 2011. Sam proposed in January.
In July, the couple was no longer seen together and Sam deleted all photos of Cammisano from his Instagram, including their engagement photo.
Fans also noticed Cammisano was not wearing his ring in a YouTube video he posted.
8) Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Ugh..the end of one of the best rocker couples out there…
Gwen and Gavin stayed married for 13 years before ending it in August.
Gwen reportedly filed, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. She also asked for joint custody of their three sons, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo.

They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time.”
The two were married on a boat in Lake Tahoe in 1989, and Reba soon discovered she was pregnant after returning from their honeymoon.
Their only son, Shelby is currently a successful Indy racecar driver. Blackstock has three children from his previous marriage, including artist manager, Brandon, who is currently married to Kelly Clarkson and expecting a second child.
10) Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards

For those who watch the show, all of the couple’s many relationship issues were evident from the beginning. Not to mention Kourtney’s constant opposition to marrying the father of her children.
News of the split came after Disick was spotted vacationing in the South of France with an old girlfriend.
12) Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green

The two, who met on the set of Hope and Faith, are known for having been on-again, off-again while dating.
