As I’m writing this I’m listening to “I’m So Into You,” and I got to say, it brings back memories. I don’t remember every last singer from the 90’s, but I definitely remember SWV.  A new reality series on WE tv called SWV Reunited follows Cheryl “Coko” Clemons, Leanne “Lelee” Lyons, and Tamara “Taj” George as they write new music, tour, and face the issues that ended their friendship and their careers once before.

During an interview with thegrio.com, they opened up about their breakup, which happened at the peak of SWV’s fame. The interviewer talks to them about a clip from the first episode of their reality series where Taj says that it was Coko who caused them to break up.

“Coko wanted more money. She wanted more of everything and maybe if she hadn’t, SWV would still be together,” Taj said. “We would never have taken a hiatus and we’d still be on top.”

After they show the clip, Coko tells the interviewer that she disagrees with what Taj said.

“That’s not why I think the group broke up. I think we all have different versions,” she said. “From my understanding she [LeLee] stopped showing up, she wasn’t coming to any more shows. So it was just us two [Coko and Taj] and we weren’t speaking. The label didn’t want her [LeLee] in the group anymore anyway, so it was just like a bunch of mess.”

The ladies also discussed how they paved the way for groups like Destiny’s Child. LeLee recalls that they knew them when they were Girls Tyme.

“They used to come to our hotel rooms and jump on our beds when they were just kids,” she said.

LeLee also went on to say that she remembers Beyonce at a young age and how “she was singing her a** off then.”

Taj said that Beyonce and the rest of the group “had intelligent people around them who knew the business and knew how to work the system. They were very fortunate,” said Taj. LeLee added that they had learned from SWV’s mistakes.
