The LA Clippers goes to… Steve Ballmer.
The NBA league has announced that the Los Angeles Clippers new owner will be Steve Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft, for $2 Billion on Friday; this is the same day Donald Sterling filed a lawsuit against the NBA and commissioner Adam Silver for $1 Billion. The decision is still pending approval.
Sterling’s wife, Shelly Sterling, is rushing to accept bids before the meeting on June 3rd. She may be the one responsible for giving control of the Clippers franchise to the league.
Sterling has to agree to the terms of the sale. If he does not, the NBA will proceed with votes which will force him to sell. If the sale is approved by 29 other NBA owners and moves forward to completion, it will be the highest amount ever paid for an NBA team. The owners need a 3 out of 4 majority vote to complete the sale.
Some of the other names mentioned in the bidding war for the LA Clippers were Oprah, Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Renta, Dr. Dre, Magic Johnson, and Diddy.
