Sight-seeing NYC by boat just got a hell of a lot more suave and a lot less touristy. All aboard the “Smooth Cruise.” Last Thursday, the Smooth Cruise, which hosts various jazz artists to serenade the crowd while over-looking the city sites, was packed with a crowd of jazz enthusiasts and die-hard fans waiting to be blown away by three-time Grammy nominated saxophone player, Boney James.
The sold-out dinner cruise held a mostly mature crowd, but that didn’t stop the boat from rocking once James began to play. During the show, seats were left empty as people cut-a-rug wherever they could find the space to dance. Although James is a considered a contemporary jazz artist, his distinct sound has a R&B air to it. The native New Yorker kept the show lively, as he took a break from blowing the sax to bust a few dance moves himself.
Aboard the Hornblower Infinity yacht are multiple dance floors, spread across three levels for dancing and dinning. The yacht is incredibly sleek and sexy, with a covered sky deck and the over-sized windows are absolutely gorge! Before leaving the dock at Pier 40, guests can enjoy a surprisingly good dinner with optional purchase buffets, including select entrees, sides and desserts, such as pan-seared salmon and penne alla vodka. There is also a cash bar, with an optional open bar upgrade for purchase-the Bellini’s are to die for (THZ knows good drinks)! And of course, the two-hour cruise features various attractions to see, such as the beautiful city sky lines, and statue of liberty.
Unfortunately, the Boney James smooth cruise was the last jazz cruise of the summer. However, you can catch the final Jazz cruise on Oct. 3, as they cap off the summer series with an encore featuring Spyro Gyra. You can find more information and ticket purchase options here.
