I’ve been a big fan of Rob Lowe ever since I saw him in the movie St. Elmo’s Fire when I was little. He’s incredibly good looking and is also a really good actor. Besides being in movies, he’s also been on TV shows like The West Wing and Brothers & Sisters. When you’ve had such an amazing career it doesn’t seem strange that you might write a book about it, right? He did in fact write a book about his life in 2011 titled Stories I Only Tell My Friends: An Autobiography.

I was happy to find out that he had a new book out last week, and I jumped at the chance to attend the book signing for it. Not only will you get to see some nice photos of him, but I also had a chance to read the book titled Love Life and will review it for you.

Book Signing

The book signing was at a Barnes & Noble in Manhattan last Thursday. It was a beautiful day, and I was pumped to get on the train from New Jersey to attend it. The signing took place at noon, and I got there at around 11:15 a.m because I wanted to have a sweet treat at Barnes & Noble before I saw him. I settled on an Oreo Cupcake, which was so big and had so much frosting but that’s just how I like my cupcake. If it doesn’t have a mountain of frosting there’s a chance I might not eat it.

After I ate I waited for a few minutes in a special designated area for media people, and then at around 11:40 p.m. I was moved into the area where Lowe would be signing books. While I was waiting there I kept imagining what he would be like in person…how tall he would be…if I would be the first person he smiled at when he entered, etc..

At around noon he walked in, and he had to walk right by me to get to the area where he would be signing books. Let me repeat that…HE HAD TO WALK RIGHT BY ME TO GET TO THE AREA WHERE HE WOULD BE SIGNING BOOKS!! I was so in awe that he was walking right by me that I accidentally pushed the “off” button on my camera instead of the photo snapping button. But fear not, my fellow Lowe fans, I did manage to get some nice photos of him after that.

After I got some photos, I along with the rest of the media had to move out of there to make way for the fans. But I didn’t leave before getting a couple of photos of the people standing in line.

Review of “Love Life”

I finished this book in less than a day, and I must say that I found it to be very honest and engaging. It really felt like Lowe had put a lot of thought into what he was writing, and I honestly felt like I was having a conversation with him over hot chocolate. Whether he was talking about his marriage to Sheryl or his son Matthew going to college or what makes a good actor…I was very much interested in what he had to say. It’s very clear how much Lowe loves his family and how much he loves doing quality movies/TV shows. He has a wonderful writing ability, and he really lets you into his life. I must say that I found the story about the hot tub at the Playboy Mansion particularly humorous.

If you’re a fan of Lowe or love reading about what life is like for an actor when he’s not in a movie or TV show, I highly recommend this book. It gets 5 stars from me.
