Erik de Vries and Josephine Egberts connected on popular dating app Tinder but, thankfully, things didn’t go too far before they discovered that they’re actually related.
“The first time I swiped her profile I had absolutely no idea. To be honest, it hasn’t been on my mind in the past few years after Maarten, my brother, and I finished a failed search for Josephine a few years ago,” de Vries, 24, told Mic.
During one conversation, though, he picked up on certain clues that made him think Egberts, 22, was his sister. He was a little uncomfortable at first, and cut off contact for awhile. Curiosity won out in the end, and the two talked about their family histories, confirming that they were indeed family.
The siblings’ parents divorced in 1999 and split up the children instead of sharing custody. Egberts remained in the Netherlands with their mother, while de Vries and his twin brother moved to Belgium with their father.
The reunited brother and sister met up in person, since de Vries is currently back in the Netherlands attending school, according to Business Insider. Egberts eventually met her other brother as well.
Reunited and it…started out very awkward but now probably feels great.
Be careful, Tinder users! Sometimes things can get interesting in more ways than one.
