Twitter is buzzing with angry comments over Time Magazine’s – “100 Most Influential People” cover. It seems that the readers, and even some of Beyonce’s loyal fan base, are disgusted with her choice of clothing. Some Twitter responses said “Couldn’t Beyoncé have worn clothes for her cover?”, I absolutely love Beyonce but that outfit is so Miley Cyrus.” Journalist, Sarah Vine, tweeted “Why is Beyoncé in her bra and pants on the cover of time magazine, while all the men are pictured looking bloodily (sic) intellectual.”
Blogger Brogan Driscoll from the Huffington Post, had more than a few words to say. She stated “Thigh-high boots, corsets, the teeniest of short shorts may be Beyonce’s look du jour, but do they really have a place on Time magazine’s cover? Bey says Time magazine’s recognition is important because it’s not about fashion or beauty or music. It’s about the influence I’ve had on culture. So why does she have to come half-dressed?”
The other stars who feature on the cover, are Robert Redford, the NBA’s first openly gay athlete Jason Collins, and General Motors CEO Mary Barra. They are all fully clothed. Beyonce’s short profile, which was written by her friend and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, begins with “Beyonce doesn’t just sit at the table. She builds a better one. Today she sits at the head of the boardroom table at Parkwood Entertainment.”
Reader, Elisavet Papoutsi, wrote on TIME’s Facebook page “You decide she’s the most influential person. In the world. And then you let her grace your cover in her underwear. You don’t see how pathetic that is?”
Do you think that Beyonce’s choice of clothing for the cover is inappropriate?
