If you haven’t caught the intense episode of Oprah’s Master Class about Vanessa Williams then you are missing out. Williams recently appeared on the show and revealed shocking events that took place during her childhood.
Williams revealed that the summer before she started fifth grade she went on vacation to California with her friend. She stayed with her friend’s family, and revealed that the 18-year-old daughter of her friend’s family molested her.
Williams said that the woman was one of the “cool girls” who made her feel like she was a grown up.
As the episode progresses she goes into detail about the horrifying incident by saying:
“One night she came into the room where my friend and I were sleeping, and she told me to lie down on the floor. She took my bottoms off and she said, ‘Be quiet,’ and she went down on me, I knew it felt good, but also something that was not supposed to be happening.”
After the incident occurred Williams said that she was confused and wanted to talk to her parents about it. Once she returned home from her trip she learned that her uncle had passed away. She chose not to mention the incident that had occurred while on vacation. As time went on she realized that this was not something she could just forget about.
She explained in detail how it affected her growing up by saying:
“It awakens your sexuality at an age where it shouldn’t be awakened. Had that not happened in my life and had I had an opportunity to have a normal courtship with a boyfriend at 16 or whatever, there wouldn’t have been that shame that was always haunting me. It made me more sexually promiscuous and more curious at a younger age than I should have been.”
