Then you’re sure to get a brain, a heart, a home, the nerve… and maybe some coins? If you’ve seen the 1939 classic film, The Wizard of Oz, enough times, your brain is probably buzzing. Here’s some good news for fans of the movie – on Tuesday, June 9, a Wizard of Oz themed casino will open in a strip mall near Syracuse, New York. It will be called The Yellow Brick Road Casino. Hail Dorothy, are we right?
Some of the casino’s attractions will include cocktails at a bar called the Winged Monkey and the Cyclone of Cash, where guests will have their shot at collecting money. The casino only seats 500, so space will be competitive. Fans of the book can’t help but wonder how this could be a response to the metaphor L. Frank Baum was using in his novel. Supposedly, the novel was an allegory for the Populist party in the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth-century. The Populist party, like a casino, was big on using coins for currency instead of paper. Where else can you find coins? Casinos. Very interesting. We can’t wait to see how much the casino resembles Oz… and we hope no one dares drop a house on it.
