2015 Circle of Sisters Expo Recap


This past weekend, the biggest names in entertainment, finance, politics and business converged at Jacob Javits Center for Circle of Sisters, the largest three-day EXPO in New York City. The EXPO featured over 250 upcoming and established vendors, panels and breakout sessions and live broadcasts and performances stages. Appearances included rapper, 50 Cent, actress and singer, Jennifer Hudson, BBQ connoisseur,Bobby Brown, New York City’s First Lady, Chirlane McCray, American screenwriter, Richard Brooks and Beyonce’s father (and former talent manager for Destiny’s Child), Matthew Knowles.

During the three-day EXPO, attendees got to listen to exclusive, intimate discussions ranging from Jennifer Hudson and the full cast of The Color Purple (coming to Broadway December 10) to the male stars of BET’s Being Mary Jane. The panels and breakout discussions offered something for everyone. From the stars of Starz cable network’s hit show, Power, discussing the viewer’s shift from reality TV to drama series to some of the most powerful women in corporate America discussing their rise to fame.

The EXPO also featured the HealthFirst Cooking Pavilion where celebrity chefs Bobby Brown, Pat Neely and Jeff Vaden shared some of their finest recipes and cooking techniques. The demonstration was hosted by Nikki Shaw from the Food Network’s hit series, The Next Food Network Star.

On Saturday night, concert goers danced the night away at the Circle of Sisters R&B Live Concert , presented by Major World at Madison Square Garden. Performances included the legendary Chaka Khan, alongside R&B superstars Avant and Jaheim. On Sunday morning, WLIB’s Bishop Hezekiah Walker led attendees in an uplifting, spiritual service before the panels, performances, and vendor floor continued for the second day.

The EXPO concluded with a performance by MetroPCS Gospel Explosion, where Brian Courtney Wilson, Tasha Cobbs, Tina Campbell, Pastor Charles Jenkins, Anthony Brown & group therapy and more brought the crowd to their feet with their soulful, inspirational voices.
