According to a study published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, a woman was hospitalized after losing feeling in her legs as a result of her tight jeans.
The study indicates that squatting in skinny jeans can possibly cause damage in the nerves and muscles of the legs.
The 35-year-old woman caused this injury in her legs as she spent her day helping a relative move, which required plenty of squatting. Later that night, the woman’s feet grew numb, so she tripped and fell. She was found on the ground hours before she was rushed to the nearest hospital.
Dr. Thomas Kimber, who treated the patient, stated, “We blame what happened on a combination of prolonged squatting for hours and the tight jeans she was wearing.”
According to the study, doctors had to cut the jeans off her calves because they had become so swollen. The patient also lost circulation in her lower legs and could not move her ankles or toes properly.
“Normally muscles can expand to compensate for swelling, but there was a tourniquet effect, so the muscles had to expand inwards and compressed blood vessels and nerves.” He also added, “If she hadn’t been able to come to the hospital, the compression could have gone on longer and caused residual nerve damage.”
The woman was released from the hospital four days after being on an IV, and she was able to walk again.
Would you go as far as causing damage to your legs for the sake of being a slave of fashion?
