Aldon Smith, linebacker of the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested for the third time Thursday night. Smith was charged on hit and run, driving under the influence and vandalism charges, according to police in Santa Clara, California.
“Smith apparently hit a neighbor’s car after an argument, which suffered minor damage. The neighbor called police, who responded and arrested him, the sources said,” said Lisa Fernandez of NBC Bay Area.
The 25-year-old has proven to be a star on the field but after several incidents that occurred such as his suspension last season and an arrest at an airport, his reputation is in jeopardy.
Smith was booked into the Santa Clara County jail and held on $26,000 bond. He was released Friday morning by the 49ers.
“This organization has tried very hard to help Aldon fight his issues,” said San Francisco 49ers. “Although he is no longer a member of this team, our support and concern for him will continue.”
Smith told Janine De la Vega of KTVU that he was not driving under the influence saying, “the truth will come out,” according to SB Nation.
