On Monday night, at Alice Tully Hall in New York City, the fashion industry’s biggest names gathered together to honor the year’s best in Women’s fashion, Men’s fashion, accessory design, newcomers and much more.
This year the top prizes went to the Olsen twins and The Row for womenswear and to Tom Ford for menswear, with Tabitha Simmons going home with the award for accessories.
Also notable was the 72-year-old, ever-charismatic Betsey Johnson who received the Lifetime Achievement Award and celebrated the win with her signature cartwheel-split combination!
Other awards included the Swarovski Awards for the industry’s up-and-coming, the fashion icon award, which went to Pharrell Williams (and his 12-minute acceptance speech) and the media award, which Instagram received from Kim Kardashian, fittingly enough.
However, considering that the CFDA Awards is all about fashion, you must understand that the Red Carpet looks are just as important as the actual winners.
This year, it was Gigi Hadid and Taraji P. Henson who stole the show. Hadid emerged wearing a shimmery gold jumpsuit by Michael Kors, while Empire actress Henson was a knockout in a burgundy gown by Vera Wang.
Plus, bonus points to a pregnant Kim Kardashian who wore an almost completely sheer black Proenza Schouler dress and announced an award regardless of the fact that she was feeling under the weather.
What was your favorite part of the CFDA Awards this year, the familiar names or the new faces?
