An 11-year-old child shot and killed a teen that was trying to break into a home in north St. Louis, MO. Police say that the child shot one round from a handgun and killed the 16-year-old suspect.
Two suspects tried to previously break into the home twice on Thursday. One suspect got into the unlocked front door at 2:30 p.m. while the 11-year old girl and a 4-year-old girl were home alone. It was then that the 11-year-old shot and killed the intruder. Police found the body in the front foyer with a gunshot wound to the head.
The body was removed from the home at 4:15 p.m. and the children were not harmed in the incident.
Investigators say that the second suspect ran off after the shots fired and he has been taken into custody. Neither suspect’s identification have been released at this time.
Authorities are currently talking to the mother in order to determine why the children were home alone, as well as find out why the 11-year-old had access to a handgun.
Police believe the handgun was purchased because of prior break-in attempts at the home. They report that she is fully cooperating with the investigation.
The shooting is being investigated by the St. Louis County Police Department.
