Five members of a Texas family are dead after a fatal crash on Interstate 20 near Calhoun.
According to reports, The accident occurred around 11:45 PM in the eastbound lane near Highway 80. The family of eight were traveling to Disney World for vacation. A 16-year-old was driving the SUV at the time of the crash. He fell asleep at the wheel and caused the SUV to run off the road into the median. The driver tried to gain control of the steering wheel which made the vehicle roll. When the vehicle rolled over the six family members were thrown out. Five of the passengers died. An 8-year-old, who was thrown from the vehicle, survived and is hospitalized None of the six thrown from the vehicle were wearing seat belts. The driver, along with another passenger who were buckled in, had minor injuries.
Officials say the teen driver and that sibling have returned to Texas with other family members.
