After a 51-year-old male attacked a movie theater with a gun, sprayed three people with pepper spray and attacked someone with a hatchet, less than an hour after the incident, he is found dead in Antioch, Tennessee.
Witnesses of the movie theater shooting ran outside to two officers working at a traffic stop. Both officers responded rapidly to the situation, according to Don Aaron, police spokesman.
A 53-year-old and 17-year-old, both females, were injured by pepper spray. A 58-year-old man suffered a severe injury to his shoulder from a hatchet.
Fortunately, nobody was injured from gunfire inside Carmike Hickory 8 Theater.
During the film, Mad Max, officers rushed in and shots were fired towards the nameless gunman.
“The officer started at the projection room and started clearing down,” said Aaron. “He encountered the gunman. The gunman opened fire on the South Precinct officer. That officer returned his fire, and then backed away out of the theater.”
“There was gunfire and the gunman is deceased just inside the movie theater,” said Aaron. “So we believe the imminent threat has been ended.”
At 1:13 p.m, the incident was reported with an active shooter.
The SWAT team quickly confronted the suspect, according to Don Aaron, police spokesman. Police said the suspect was dead at 1:54 p.m.
At 2:20 p.m, officials were cautiously examining two backpacks which was left inside the theater while the suspect wore the other.
Reporters explain the loud bang that occurred due to the detonation of at least one of the bags, just before 4 p.m.
Police were located all over Antioch as well as blocking several nearby streets.
The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were then on scene to help with the investigation.
