I was thrilled when I received an invitation to do a review on Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bars’ Midtown location located on 31st Street in NYC. My PR & Marketing Director and I had a reservation for a recent Sunday at 4:00pm. As soon as we walked through the doors, we were impressed by the quaint, lively atmosphere and friendly hosts. We were led to our seat by the window where the sun was shining through on a beautiful Spring day in NYC. I loved that I could sit back, unwind, and get ready for what Ayza had to offer.
We were immediately greeted when we walked in the door by the General Manager, Angel Campos. Angel made us feel welcomed and was extremely helpful suggesting drinks and food options that he thought would be excellent to try. Our waitress Robin (who was a gem) was ready to take our order. Ayza offers a unique food menu and over 90 fine wines and champagne from all over the world. Their menu was very impressive. We started off with drinks to unwind. We chose Rosé Provence, an excellent semi sweet wine from France which is great for the spring and summer along with a glass of Riesling. These two drinks paired with rich chocolates were delicious and set the tone for an amazing experience ahead of us.
It was now time to order our appetizers, oh where do we begin is what we were thinking. Our dilemma was that everything sounded great, but we had to make a decision. We decided to start with the Angry Chicken Lollipops with Spicy sesame hoisin sauce and crispy rice noodles. The Chicken Lollipops were so tasty and the chicken just melted in our mouths and was so flavorful. Next we tried the Fireball Chicken with a spicy sauce and garlic parsley dip. To die for is all I have to say!! It was spicy and sooo good. I’m Jamaican, so I can handle spicy alright, no match for this island guy. Our last appetizer was the Truffle Pizza with garlic cream sauce, bresaola (salt cured beef) and white truffle oil. All I will say is that the pizza was so good, we just had to order a second one before the night ended. Yup, that’s how good it was!
It was now time for the main course as my mouth was watering for what was in store for the entrees. Oh it was a very hard choice ladies and gentlemen, but we decided on going with the lightly breaded grilled chicken with seasonal vegetables, lemon mustard and red pepper sauce. The most important thing I remember about this dish was how flavorful the chicken was, it was literally bursting with flavors and seasoned to perfection. Our other entrée was the Ayza Shish Kebap with authentic salsa, fresh tomatoes, traditional herbs and onion salad. Now, I will tell you, I am not a shish kebap kind of guy, but I said to myself, why not give it a try. Boy, was I happy I listened to my instinct because it was truly amazing.
After finishing our entrées, we decided to order dessert but we were unsure about what we wanted. Our waitress Robin who was amazing, suggested we get the Twenty-Layer Crêpes Cake Brûlée, with 20 layers of crêpe and organic whipped cream. She came back with this yummy looking dessert and I couldn’t wait to dig in especially since I have a sweet tooth. It was so moist and light and was exactly what the doctor ordered. To say this dessert was great would have been an understatement. It was amazing!
Our last order of business (yes I know it doesn’t sound like work, but it is, lol) was to close out the amazing night with what else other than Ayza’s signature Chocolate Martinis. We had the classic Chocolate Martini served with dark and cappuccino Truffle and the Raspberry Martini served with Menage a Trios chocolate. Honestly, there is really no better way to end the night and the wonderful experience at Ayza than this. We wound down the night after enjoying the day turned night and reflected on the whole experience with fond admiral thoughts, not to mention a very full stomach.
What a glorious experience thanks to the amazing staff and of course delectable drinks, food and dessert! Overall, the service was impeccable and the experience was fantastic. Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar receives a five star rating for service and experience.
