Charles Barkley is in the news yet again for making a controversial comment, this time going against NCAA rules. Barkley who was a dual-athlete in football and basketball at Auburn University made some bold comments about what he would do to bring better basketball athletes to campus.
Barkley said to Davis in an interview with Campus Insiders that he would absolutely pay an Auburn recruit $100,000 to come play for Auburn. This is obviously controversial because that kind of behavior is not allowed by the NCAA, which is exactly why I am not surprised about Barkley’s comments.
Barkley also spoke about Roy Williams, head coach of the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team. He complained to Davis in the interview that UNC players have been getting away with not going to class for years, and the NCAA has not punished them for that. Barkley believes that if UNC can do that, then he should be allowed to pay recruits.
