Heather Mack, 19 and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Tommy Schaefer have been charged with murder in the death of Mack’s mother, 62-year-old Sheila Von Wiese- Mack
Mack, Schafer and Mack’s mother were all on vacation in Bali. The relaxing trip quickly took a turn for the worst.
The Chicago teen and her boyfriend are being accused of killing Mack’s mother, and stuffing her body into a suitcase.
Mack and Schaefer carried a suitcase to a taxi in front of the resort they were staying in. They told the driver they needed to get more bags and quickly checked out, they left through the backdoor, leaving the suitcase.
The driver waited for two hours, when he noticed blood on the suitcase he drove it to the police department.
Mack and her mother had a long history of fighting. Between January 2004 and June 2013 police went to their home in Chicago 86 times for calls about domestic violence, and theft.
Mack told officials she is pregnant, and needs to be transferred to the U.S. for proper medical treatment.
The two could executed by firing squad if convicted under Indonesia law.
In Indonesia, death row inmates are executed by firing squad. The condemned is taken to a field and shot by 12 gunmen. If the dozen shots to the chest do not kill the prisoner, the squad’s leader will deliver a point-blank shot to his or her head, the New York Times Explained.
