Rumor has it that member of the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade, is considering a team change! There was a constant assumption that Miami Heat is where Wade’s heart lies, and he will stay there until retirement, but this may not be in effect next season.
Dwyane juggles between remaining a player option worth $16 billion, or becoming an unrestricted free agent. Also, he’s considering the Los Angeles Lakers?!
Sources report that Wade and the Miami Heat will be meeting within the next week to discuss his contract. Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst state that “They had discussed a new contract for around $10 million per year for up to three years beyond his current deal, sources said.”
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald says that “A Wade associate has told people that Wade would welcome a contract averaging $20 million annually over the next three years,” and that “The Heat would prefer Wade opt in for $16 million next season then take a very significant pay cut over the following two years.” Jackson adds that the Miami Heat has not confirmed these numbers officially yet, and formal offers can still be made July 1, so we’ll just have to wait.
Matt Moore, of CBSSports.com, is one of many who isn’t taking this lightly. He says, “Even if this is mostly designed to put pressure on Miami to come through with what Wade wants, it does set up extremely interesting scenarios, and it has to do with a hard reality for Miami: They can’t afford to let Wade go.” Dwyane Wade has spent his entire NBA career with Miami Heat, and there is a lot on his plate as he makes this decision.
Believing Wade will stay with the Miami Heat is not far-fetched, considering his tweet made July 15 2014. He states “Home Is Where The Heart Is… My Home,My City,My House..#HeatLifer.” The fear here may be that the L.A. Lakers have more to offer, in terms of money, of course. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated tweeted: “Hard to see L.A. offering Wade a better chance to win than Miami, especially in the West. But it is L.A., and they do have money to burn.”
The last thing our Miami Heat fans need is to lose another one of their players to another team. Sources state that “Wade wants to remain in Miami,” so hopefully that remains the final verdict.
What do you think? Will Wade remain in his comfort zone, or decide to switch things up a bit?
