The body of former NFL player, JaJuan Dawson, was recovered from Lake Lavon late Monday evening. The Collin County Sheriff’s office in Texas received an emergency phone call around 6:30 PM from one of Dawson’s family members, who reported that Dawson fell off of the boat he had rented for a family outing, which included his three children.
Dawson, who was not wearing a life jacket, was found the next day when the search commenced as Lieutenant, Chris Havey, out of the Collin County office announced that the lake’s murky waters impeded on their search. Havey also then reported that this was not an alcohol related incident, and has been deemed an accident. Therefore, the sheriff’s office has nothing more to contribute to the case. There is also the possibility that Dawson was not able to swim, according to his family.
An autopsy will be performed on the body, but there is little doubt that the body belongs to the 37-year-old ex-Houston Texans receiver. Dawson was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2000 NFL Draft and had a short three season stint in the NFL.
Sadly, his life was cut short as well by this unbelievably tragic accident. We will keep you updated if more information on the story develops.
