Hacking Team, a company used by police hack citizens, has been hacked itself.
The unknown hacker revealed embarrassing emails and a torrent with 400GB of personal source code, communications and files in a series of tweets from the company’s hacked Twitter account.
Hacking Team employs more than 40 people who make and sell commercial hacking software to law enforcement in many countries, including Ethiopia, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
The team is also notorious for inserting directed malware into YouTube and Microsoft’s Live services.
Two Italian programmers who first created the viral weapon to spy on people, Ettercap, formed the company. Their success led to Hacking Team, but now the company’s Twitter account has been renamed “Hacked Team” by the rival hackers.
