An Aer Lingus flight was diverted to Cork Airport after a man lost consciousness after becoming “agitated.” The incident occurred while on a flight from Lisbon to Dublin.
Other passengers tried to calm the man but he suddenly became unconscious. The Irish national police, An Garda Siochana, told reporters a doctor and nurse who just happened to be on the plane attended him, but it was too late.
There was also a report that one of the passengers that tried to subdue the man was bitten on the hand, and was taken to the hospital.
The Garda also said that they found “what they believe to be 1.8 kilograms (4 pounds) of amphetamine in the luggage of a woman in her 40s who was on the same flight.” The woman is believed to be a Portuguese national and has been arrested. She is being held under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
An autopsy is being done on the man at Cork University Hospital to determine a cause of death.
