After a Texas mom voiced her concerns on YouTube about the inappropriate portrayal of slaves as immigrant “workers” in her son’s school textbook, McGraw-Hill, publishing giant, said it would rewrite the book.

McGraw- Hill posted a Facebook status in regards to the recent concerns. They agreed that the language published made it seem that Africans migrated and were enslaved willingly. The book publishing giant said “We believe we can do better. To communicate these facts more clearly, we will update this caption to describe the arrival of African slaves in the U.S. as a forced migration and emphasize that their work was done as slave labor”.

McGraw-Hill told the public that these changes to the textbook will be reflected in the digital version of the book right away, and will appear in the textbook’s next print run.
