We live in a world where the job market has become more competitive than ever. Jobs such as an opening that 500 to 1,000 people apply more and one gets it. It has been so harsh that people are being laid off left and right.
Microsoft’s chief Satya Nadella said in a public announcement today that the company would lay off almost 18,000 workers in the next year. Nearly 70% of the layoffs will affect Nokia employees as well.
Microsoft bought Nokia last spring, and since then 25,000 Nokia employees have become Microsoft employees. “Nokia Devices and Services is expected to account for about 12,500 jobs,” Nadella said.
Nadella said Microsoft plans to add new “roles in certain other strategic areas,” but made no promises in regard to the number of jobs Microsoft will create.
