A mother and father committed suicide by jumping from a building on Friday morning on the corner of Madison Avenue and 33rd Street.
The couple, Glenn and Patricia Scarpelli who are in their 50’s, jumped to their death from the ninth floor of a 17 floor building, because they were worried about paying their health care.
The couple were covered by white bags once police arrived on the scene, which occurred one block from the Empire State Building.
The chiropractor and his wife left suicide notes and their IDs in Ziploc bags, in which one letter stated they “had a wonderful life”, according to the New York Post.
The Post also reported that the woman’s note said “Our kids are upstairs, please take care of them”. They left behind 20-year old Isabella and 19-year old Joseph.
Public records have revealed that Scarpelli owed $213,000 to the federal government and almost $42,000 to the state from unpaid taxes.
The man appeared to hit his head and the woman had suffered abdominal injuries. They landed face up to the sky, according to the Daily Mail.
The two committed suicide hours before it was announced that Obamacare would be kept in place for now, as three Republicans voted against its repeal.
Our thoughts are with their families at this time.
