According to some, fashion may have gone too far this time.
The clothing retailer Pacific Sunwear, or PacSun, has been receiving some serious backlash against one of their items this Memorial Day.
The T-shirt in question, an item from their collection that was created in collaboration with A$AP Worldwide, is solid black with an upside down American Flag graphic on the front.
Typically, a flag displayed in that manner indicates tremendous danger and distress, and many are taking offense to the promotion of such an image. To many, the image seems particularly offensive because today is the day our country dedicates to those who have lost their lives while serving in our armed forces.
On the other hand, some consumers are arguing that the graphic is perfectly appropriate. Some are saying that our country is, in fact, in a state of crisis, so this shirt is simply making a political statement about the problems that need fixing.
Has PacSun made a mistake? Is this T-shirt too disrespectful to be on display, or is it just another way people are utilizing their freedom of speech?
