Now that the New York Knicks have traded away Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith, it is safe to say that the Knicks will be one of the worst teams in the NBA this year, and they are looking to rebuild through free agency and draft picks with the space they have cleared. However, the Knicks were not projected to be this bad in the beginning of the season. Who is to blame? Phil Jackson says he is, and not Derek Fisher.
Jackson told the New York media that, “I take responsibility for it, and the fans, I want them to leave Derek [Fisher] alone in this regard. It’s not his fault.”
Jackson continued to question his own decisions by saying, “Obviously I didn’t do the right thing in picking the group of guys that were here.” That part is pretty obvious when your team record stands at 5-35. That is even worse than the Philadelphia 76ers, whose front office has made it a public goal of tanking.
At least now, the Knicks have started to take some action and get rid of the bad contracts as well as certain players in an effort to change the culture around New York. Only time will tell to see if the Knicks will finally be able to bring another championship to New York.
