Do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight! Police are cracking down in the subways after people have reportedly been pole dancing in the cars.
The people who love to flip, somersault and pole – dance among New York City subway riders as trains come and go are drawing a new audience, police officers.
The New York Police Department is cracking down on the subway people who use the mass transit system as stages for their acts. More than 240 people have been arrested so far this year, compared with fewer than 40 at this time a year ago.
Police Commissioner William Bratton acknowledges he is targeting subway performers as part of his “broken windows” theory of policing.
“Is it a significant crime? Certainly not,” Bratton said recently. But the question is, he added, “Does it have the potential both for creating a level of fear as well as a level of risk that you want to deal with?”
