A Louisiana inmate took an assistant warden’s teenage daughter hostage before eventually stabbing her. He was then shot dead by police in a standoff.
On Thursday afternoon the prison inmate, who was identified as Deltra Henderson, went missing after walking away from his work assignment. He then abducted 19-year old Amanda Leigh Carney.
Amanda is the step-daughter of assistant warden James Arnold, and she lived on the grounds of the prison with her family. Her mother, Andrea Bell, works at the prison too.
Henderson stole a car, in which he abducted the young woman in. He then crashed the car in a remote wooded area.
Police found Leigh Carney’s body at the crash site, and it’s unclear what stage in the afternoon she was stabbed, reports the Daily Mail.
Henderson hid in a home on the prison grounds and found a firearm in the house. When police surrounded the home, he opened fire, leading the police to fire back. Henderson was killed in the standoff.
He was set to be released from the prison on good time in 2025, after being there since 2001. The inmate had convictions of attempted armed robbery, aggravated burglary and cocaine distribution.
