The matchup of this year’s Wimbledon that caught everyone’s attention was definitely the one between sisters, Venus and Serena Williams.
On Monday July 6, Serena officially defeated her sister in the faceoff, so she will be the one moving on to the quarterfinal (her eleventh quarterfinal).
The final score was 6-4, 6-3 but the victory was not a cause for celebration for the younger Williams sister.
After the match she told BBC, “It’s hard to feel excited,” explaining how “it doesn’t get easier…to play someone that you love and care about.”
The traditional post-game handshake was, in this case, a warm hug between sisters, as this could be Serena’s last Wimbledon match against her sibling.
It looks like Serena’s perfected serve and incredible power proved to be too much for Venus, but the match was still a great one to watch. Since the sisters support each other at every match, fans were excited to see them faceoff, as they probably know each other’s moves better than anyone else.
This was Serena’s fifteenth win against her sister and we wish her the best of luck in her pursuit of her fourth consecutive Grand Slam!
