The Michael and Jacob era has come to an end. For the first time in sixty years a new name took the crown of most popular newborn boy names in the United States. That name is…drum roll please…Noah!
The Social Security Administration announced today that Michael and Jacob have taken the backseat. It was a long glorious reign for Michael and Jacob. Michael was the most popular name every single year from 1961 through 1998. Jacob took the top spot from 1999 to 2012.
Meanwhile, Sophia has stood firmly in place at its top spot for newborn girl names in the United States. This was the third consecutive year that the name Sophia has come in first place. Although there is a difference between Sophia and Sofia, Sofia is quickly rising up the list taking the number thirteen spot. Emma came in second for second consecutive year, followed by Olivia, Isabella, and Ava.
