A suspect who claimed he had explosives on him at a Wells Fargo bank is dead and all the hostages have been released without injury. The incident occurred in Marietta near Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday.
Two employees escaped the bank and after three hours the suspect was pronounced dead. Officials are still investigating his backpack and whether it contains explosives. There was a robot in the bank Friday afternoon investigating.
Police said that a member of the tactical team may have killed the suspect. The suspect called authorities at 9;30am claiming he was inside the bank carrying explosives. He then proceeded to make numerous threats to police throughout Friday morning.
Wells Fargo released a statement after the incident.
“We are providing our complete support and cooperation to law enforcement in its efforts to resolve this situation swiftly and peacefully. Our top priority is the safety of our customers and team members inside the branch. As this is an active situation, we cannot comment further.”
The investigation is still ongoing.
