Starbucks Corp. announced that it plans to launch express-style stores to cater to commuters. The company said “The new stores will have reduced beverage and food menus and will integrate the company’s digital payment and mobile ordering systems to speed up service.” Starbucks is also planning to open its first-ever tasting room in December. That concept will be a 15,000 square-foot interactive retail store.
The company will open at least 100 new stores in the next 5 years. It will be dedicated to its Starbucks Reserve which are some of the rarer coffees it often sells for a limited time.
Starbucks says it is on track to open about 1,550 net new stores in fiscal 2014 and 1,600 net new stores the following year.
