The upreme Court Justice, Anthony Kennedy, put a temporary hold on a lower court’s ruling that same-sex marriages may begin in Idaho and Nevada.
According to news reports “The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had declared gay marriage legal in Idaho and Nevada, just one day after the Supreme Court rejected appeals that effectively made gay marriage legal in dozens of states. Lawyers for same-sex couples were instructed to file a response by 5 p.m. Thursday. The order from Kennedy means that in the interim, gay and lesbian couples will not be able to get marriage licenses in those states.”
“The order comes in response to an emergency request by the administration of Idaho Gov. Butch Otter seeking a recall of the lower-court decision that both state’s marriage bans were unconstitutional” -Washington Post
