20-year-olds Olaf Jablonski and Yuval Sucov were arrested and charged Thursday for the unsanctioned fraternity hazing that led to 19-year-old Trevor Duffy’s death.
Duffy who drank excessive amount of alcohol was found unresponsive in an Albany house on Nov. 16 and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Duffy a University at Albany student was directed to drink large quantities of alcohol as part of a fraternity pledge by Jablonski and Sucov.
Duffy who was from the Bronx in New York is one of many students who die each year due to hazing rituals. University Of Maryland reports 82% of deaths from hazing involve alcohol.
Police said on Wednesday that both Jablonski and Sucov were the main instigators in the hazing. Each were charged with a misdemeanor count of first-degree hazing. Both were later released on their own recognizance.
Police say they are certain they will make more arrests.
