Philadelphia Phillies fans were anything but amused at this prank. Cole Hamels, the baseball team’s pitcher, cleaned out his locker on Thursday by himself. When some reporters piled into the clubhouse and noticed this, they panicked. They had good reason, too – Hamels also removed his own nameplate.
But Hamels was having fun, and he wanted to prank reporters and fans. The emptiness of his locker coupled with the fact that he missed his next start because of a problem with his hamstring caused a media frenzy. Were they going to trade this beloved pitcher?
Of course not. The team’s public relations cleaned this one up like your mom cleans tomato sauce from the Thursday night ziti dish – in other words, quickly and well. That’s not a surprise. The team wouldn’t want the public to think they’d traded this star of a pitcher. But in all honesty, that prank would have been way more successful if the PR team hadn’t gotten so involved and so quickly at that.
