Forget coaching in the NFL, clearly college football is where the money is. Nick Saban, who is the head coach of the University of Alabama football team, currently earns about $7 million per year which is more than many NFL head coaches.
Al.com reports that in March 2013, the Crimson Tide Foundation bought Saban’s 8,759-square-foot house for $3.1 million and has been paying the property taxes since as well. Saban and his wife continue to live in this home. Many people might be taken back by this, and the first thought that comes to mind is that there is something illegal going on here. But Al.com reports that it’s completely legit.
Assistant secretary of the foundation Scott Phelps said, “It’s not all that unusual in the world for universities to provide the housing. We want to keep him happy. We think he is the best coach in America.” In the past, the University of Alabama has owned both homes that Coach Paul Bryant lived in.
The Crimson Tide Foundation is a nonprofit group that was founded in 2003, and works with the athletic department to raise private funds for scholarships, coaching salaries, and even construction projects related to athletics. And all of this is legal said an NCAA spokesperson told AL.com.
Life is great for Saban. $7 million per year and a free house is as good as it gets. So, if you want to be a successful head coach and reap the benefits, all you have to do is win, like Saban. That sounds simple, right?
