38th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks
We all know New York does it big! And so does Macy’s! Every year the massive show (the biggest fireworks display in the country) lasts 25-minutes and includes a multitude (50,000 to be exact) of effects. This year’s musical guest, Gloria Estefan will be singing a brand new patriotic melody to accompany the spectacular display.
Where exactly: Sparks will fly from the Brooklyn Bridge and four barges in the East river between East 23rd and East 37th Streets.
Boston Pops Firework Spectacular
Considering Boston is such a vital and historic landmark in our great country, it’s only natural that their fireworks display is one to remember. This historic city’s show is most well known for it’s musical accompaniment. Home of many fine arts institutions like the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Berkeley College of Music, and the Boston Lyric Opera, no 4th of July would be complete without some great patriotic tunes. The legendary Boston Pops Orchestra takes over for Independence Day with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, featuring REAL cannon fire.
Where exactly: The impressive show will be shot from seven barges in the Charles River.
National Mall Independence Day Celebration
It can’t get more patriotic than celebrating in our nation’s Capitol! While this one really is just a fireworks show, there’s no reason not to pack a picnic and show up early to make a day of it. This show’s pyrotechnics are concentrated in a small part of the sky to get the best effect and they last for 17 minutes.
Where Exactly: The fireworks will take off over the reflecting pool in front of the Washington Monument.
Wawa Welcome America!
Ah, the place where the Declaration of Independence, itself, was signed. Philly takes 4th of July to a whole other level to celebrate America! Independence Day turns into Independence Week in this city. It is home of the Philly 4th of July Jam, the largest free concert in the country. This year’s lineup includes Miguel and Jennifer Nettles. The pyrotechnic display will last 15-minutes and uses more than 15,000-shell fireworks.
Where Exactly: Both the fireworks and the concert will occur against the backdrop of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Down to the south for some good old-fashioned fireworks! Addison, Dallas does it big—like everything in Texas. Even though this small Dallas suburb is home to 19,000, a whopping 500,000 join in the fun for the extravaganza! The firework display, lasting 30 minutes, uses 3,500 pounds of fireworks. Not to mention the pre-firework airshow put on by the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.
Where Exactly: Addison Circle Park is the place to be, but there will be a live broadcast shown locally in many restaurants around town.
Let Freedom Sing
Now you know Music City is going to do it big! It’s actually one of the largest fireworks shows in America, using more that 55,000 shells. An all-day, all-out festival of entertainment precedes the 31-minute display. And seeing as it is home to country music, the musical guests include some of the greats. Some names on the list are Martina McBride, Annie Bosko, and Mikky Ekko. The Nashville Symphony Orchestra will accompany the main event.
Where Exactly: The celebration takes place on Broadway and First Avenue, along the Cumberland River.
Lights on the Lake
An odd location for those who have never been, but don’t skip over this one too fast because it’s a treat! A real scenic view, watching firework reflections in Lake Tahoe while the Sierra Nevada Mountains are in the background. Not a bad way to celebrate the 4th. Undoubtedly an unexpectedly perfect location, the 25-minute show draws in about 125,000 visitors each July.
Where Exactly: The show takes place on the beautiful Lake Tahoe.
“Disney’s Celebrate America—A Fourth of July in the Sky”
Disney is where the magic happens! It’s no surprise that they would have a spectacular viewing for the 4th of July! Magic Kingdom hosts their annual fireworks display on July 3rd and 4th. Spend the day in the park and end it with a patriotic view of Cinderella’s Castle!
Where Exactly: The fireworks can be seen best in front of Cinderella’s Castle in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. There will be a live stream on the Disney’s Parks blog, which will feature two views—one in front of Cinderella’s Castle and the second from the Polynesian Village Resort.
Saint Louis, Mississippi
Fair Saint Louis
The Fair Saint Louis is a whole 3-night event (July2-4)! 15,000 pounds of fireworks will go off every night along with concerts and exhibitions throughout the weekend. And of course, some musical guests will be performing! The set-list includes Blondie, Melissa Etheridge, and Chris Young.
Where Exactly: St. Louis is changing things up this year. Due to construction on the usual Mississippi Waterfront and Gateway Arch, the show will be taking place in Forest Park (home of the 1904 World’s Fair).
San Francisco, California
July 4th Celebration at the Pier
San Francisco Bay’s 25-minute pier celebration features 10,000 effects and draws in a humongous crowd. The show is accompanied by a Shark Week-sponsored laser show over the pier and a performance from ‘80s cover band, Tainted Love.
Where Exactly: The show takes place off the Municipal Pier, north of Pier 39 in the Fisherman’s Wharf district.
Atlantic City, New Jersey
DO A.C. 4th of July Fireworks
They make things official in Jersey! The 15-minute show will start off with a reading of the Declaration of Independence. There will be 2 chances to catch this city’s display of lights—the first on July 3rd and the second on July 4th.
Where Exactly: The July 3rd show will take place from the two barges along the Boardwalk. The July 4th show will occur on a platform in the Marina District.
