A memo from Colin Powell to President George Bush was brought to light recently stating that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, would support the invasion of Iraq a year prior to the actual invasion.
In the memo it states,” Blair continues to stand by you and the U.S. as we move forward on the war on terrorism and on Iraq.”
The memo was found in a group of secret emails on the private server used by former Secretary of State.
In 2002, when the memo was sent, Blair’s public position was to find a diplomatic solution rather than use military force in response to what was going on in Iraq.
In a second memo that was also released, Powell wrote how Blair used spies in the Labour party to help influence public opinion of the war in Iraq.
Due to the memos being released the British government is likely to demand that Sir John Chilcot reopen the inquiry on Iraq.
