On Monday, Calvin Klein launched its latest lingerie campaign, featuring Myla Dalbesio, who is considered a ‘plus-size’ wearing a size 10. Myla was featured along side straight-size models including Jourdan Dunn and Lara Stone.
Though Calvin Klein never formally introduced Myla as plus size, or commented on her size at all. She was identified as such, throughout the media, which sparked controversy over the term.
Yesterday Dalbesio, went on the Today show and gave her opinion on the matter saying ‘I think that Calvin Klein has done something that’s really groundbreaking, which is they released this campaign with what some would say is a normal-size model, a size 10. And size-10 girls, there’s not a lot of spots for us to fit in in the fashion industry.’
Interestingly enough, where the controversy comes into play is although Myla is a size 10, she’s considered too curvy for a standard sample size zero or two, but she’s not quite a plus size either, that term generally starts at size 12 and up. Putting her somewhere in between.
‘It’s kind of confusing because I’m a bigger girl,’ Myla who’s 5’11 told Elle.
‘I’m not the biggest girl on the market but I’m definitely bigger than all the girls [Calvin Klein] has ever worked with, so that is really intimidating.’
