Did your best friend ever dare you to go into a dark bathroom to call for bloody Mary when you were a kid? Did you ever break out the Ouija board and try to summon spirits during a sleepover?
If not, I don’t blame you. Innocent youth trying to summon spirits sounds like a horror movie waiting to happen.
However, if you are interested in communicating with mysterious forces, maybe you’ll get your first encounter with the spirit world through this new trend called the “Charlie Charlie Challenge.”
The point of the challenge is to see if you can contact ‘Charlie,’ a Mexican demon child who will respond to ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions if he decides to respond to your summoning.
If you want to reach out to him, the process works like this: Take a piece of paper and divide it into four sections. Label two sections ‘no’ and two sections ‘yes.’ Arrange two pencils on the paper in the shape of a cross, with one on top of the other, to act as a spinner of sorts.
Chant the words, “Charlie, Charlie, are you here?” and if the ghost-boy decides to communicate with you, the pencil is supposed land on the word ‘yes.’
Of course, like every viral challenge (remember the ice bucket challenge?), the “Charlie Charlie Challenge” has its critics. In fact, a counter-trend has arisen in which skeptics with a sense of humor are making videos mocking the challenge and those who are attempting reach ‘Charlie.’
Are you a believer or a skeptic? If you’ve tried reaching out to ‘Charlie,’ let us know what happened!
