In a year a lot of things could change.
Last night maturation was witnessed first hand at this year’s VMA awards, hosted annually by MTV.
Everyone remembers when Miley Cyrus stole the show with her booty shakin’ performance from last year’s MTV VMA’s show. Well this year she stole the show in a much more respectable way, whether or not she did it for publicity reasons she brought awareness to a very serious issue.
Last night the former Disney star won an award for Video of the Year for her song ‘Wrecking Ball’. Instead of accepting the award herself Miley had sent up her new friend Jesse, 22, homeless youth from Los Angeles. Jesse accepted the award on her behalf and read an emotional speech:
‘I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving and lost and scared for their lives. I know, because I am one of those people.’
He continued by saying: ‘I’ve been an extra in your movies, I’ve been an extra in your lives.’
As much as I would like to make this sentiment about Miley Cyrus, it was brought to our attention last night that America has a serious issue developing right in our home.
1.6 million youth homeless? Someone needs to start asking questions, why? How? What can we do to fix this? I hope this leads to MY youth being more proactive, because it could be anyone of us.
I do commend Miley on taking an alternative approach this year and sparing us her twerking skills. So kudos to you Miley.
